The story behind Hired Team takes place in the not very distant future. The Year is 2064. The technological revolution and progress at the beginning of 21st century has lead to global urbanisation. The huge and waste Megacities fill now the planetary surface with their complicated infrastructures. The ultimate part, about 96 percent of Earth's population lives in those megapolises.

But global urbanisation leads to global crisis such as pandemics, unemployment, crime and government corruption. Ruthless street gangs are extremely well equipped with the latest weapons and supplies. The police and special forces are helpless and have no chance to stand against gang, everyday bloody exchanges of fire for city control. City hospitals are overcrowded with street wars victims. Only a new, well trained and skilled force can stop this urban chaos now.

The Year is 2064. Shine megacity, 162.7 million inhabitants.

– Good morning, everyone! My name is DJ Black. Welcome to your favorite radio show. Today it's a wonderful morning, even though the rising sun is hidden from our sights by downtown buildings. All of us are still here, in our lovely Shiny-city. And also our population is still about 162 million, though I believe it has increased a little bit during last night. You’re listening to the morning news on Mega-Radio. Stay tuned!..

(Mega-Radio news block, April 4th 2061)

– ...If I understood your point, Mr. Alexander, if you are elected, you intend to enforce law and order on the streets of the North Prefect?

– That’s correct

– But we have heard something similar over one hundred times before. It is absolutely clear that anybody who’d like to be elected to Megacity’s goverment will promise us law and order. So why do you think everybody should trust you?

– I understand. Nevertheless I’d like to remind you of my previous post as the Head of the East-suburb administration. During the two last years my region has become one of the safest and most prosperious ones. We have witnessed an incredible reduction in crime and an increase in our citizens' hapiness.

– Good to hear there’s happy citizens out there. Anyway, do you see the difference between the megacity and suburb areas? Our midtown crime rates are much higher. Are you afraid of that?

– Of course not. We had very bad situation when I started my work in the Eastern suburb, but we’ve won. And also, I believe, that...

(From an interview with Deine Alexander, candidate for the Prefect post, July 14th 2061)

...according to a survivor, there were four of attackers. They came to the restaurant entrance on the black aircar. The aircar has not yet been identified. Shortly after the four unidetified persons went inside the restaurant, the witness heard unidentified gunfire. He claims there were about thirty-six clientele. Twenty-six people were killed. We’ve got apositive ID on perpetrators: Sten Kerby, street drugdealer, also suspected for copkilling; Ien Bjong, street drugdealer, also wanted by the Criminal Police. The other two criminals have yet to be identified. All of the suspects have escaped. We still working on investigation of...

(Anjey Kovachek, Criminal Detective, on an incident in the restaurant "Spectrum", April 7th 2062)

...and this is the fourth time that one of the criminal clanleaders has been assassinated. As a result, eight of the twenty-five gangs who control the North Prefect are fighting each other in streetwars. According to our source inside the Central Police Department, they believe that so-called «Hired Teams» are responsible for such a wave of violence. These mercenaries are the same as ordinary criminal punks except for one thing. It is a matter of honor for them to successfully complete what they‘ve been paid for. No wonder that the teams are offering jobs only to high skilled ex-millitary or police specialist. Who’d have thought that in the middle of the third milenium, assassination could be the most favoured occupation...

(Shiny News newspaper, April 28th 2062)

Wanted: Individuals for the implementation of dangerous and life threatening jobs. Former military, police or special forces preferred. Send your resume to Hired Team 122464-AWS North Prefect.

(Labour exchange’s electronic message board, May 16th 2062)

The game is a First Person Shooter with a lot of tactics and elements of strategy. It is not run-and-gun style though - Hired Team is some sort of cross between combat simulator and arcade shooter in equal parts (think "Rainbow Six" meets "Quake"). The player should complete a series of missions commanding a team of four characters. Each of those characters has unique abilities as well as unique weapons though each team member may use ordinary weapons, common to all the crew.

One of the high-ranking politicians is trying to solve the criminal situation in one of Megacity's areas to boost his rating for the upcoming election. He's hiring a team of high-trained weapon specialists known only as "Hired Team".

You'll play the role one of four mercenaries: either as Scout, or as Miner, or as Sniper or even as Heavy Weapon Guy. To accomplish each mission you should wisely use your special abilities and/or weapons. You may switch "on the fly" between each four characters and play as one of them while rest of the team is controlled by AI. It provides you with more ways to meet in-game objectives or solve different combat obstacles. The missions the player should accomplish are very different - from «infiltrate and observe» to pure «kill them all» or even «destroy everything»

The Hired Team game contains three campaigns with four missions in every campaign. Each completing mission give you new environment, new arsenal of weapons and new enemies for the next one.

The game engine supports large-open area as well as detailed indoor interiors. It means that you'll be acting through wide open areas such as mountains, sea ports etc, as well as maze-like corridors, power plants, refineries, laboratories and so on. Also some of «Shine» 3D engine specs are:

* Dynamic portal effects (mirrors, holes, shadows, etc)
* Colored static and dynamic lighting effects (HSV or RGB color model; 8 light sources on polygon)
* Movable buildings (brushes)
* Multipass and multitexture mapping (up to 8 layers for surface; multi-texture support in OpenGL render mode)
* Texture, RGBA modulate modes (turbulence, scroll, stretch, transform, etc)
* Vertex deformation modes (wave)
* Realtime textures generating (environment, spheremap)
* Supports Direct 3D, OpenGL (currently just OpenGL is implemented)
* Ambient, specular highlight and diffuse lighting
* Dynamic volumetric fog
* Dazzles on water
* Textures formats: 565, 555, 1555, 4444, 8888
* Compressed textures support
* Procedural real time textures (water, lava, fire, bump, etc)
* Lens flares
* 3D BSP rendering
* PVS (Potentially Visible Surfaces) pre-calculation
* 3D–modeling (skeleton hierarchical models)
* LOD (Level Of Detalisation) support for models
* Coronas around light sources
* Realistic animated sky
* 3D hardware optimized efficient texture cache
* Full C++ portable source code
* 16 and 32 bit rendering
* BSP-based collision detection
* «Per pixel» MIP mapping (trilinear filtering)
* Implements MMX, AMD K6-3D, Katmai optimization
* Client-server architecture
